Candle dyes

Hi All:

I've started making my own candles and I'm seeking some suggestions on where to find or how to make liquid candle dye. I purchased soap dye in hopes that it would work but have yet to try it out. I'd like to know if anyone has recipes, sources or even experiences using soap dyes on candles (if that doesn't sound too bizarre!). Thus far my experience finding candle dyes at the major craft stores or information on the internet has not been extremely productive...darnit!

You could use crayons. But soap dyes will likely work, too. I think I got mine at Michaels Crafp store.

Why put a dye in your candles?

I sell soy candles scented with essential oils only. I buy them only, I dont make them. Anyway, the lady who does make them for me doesnt color them unless the dye is specified. I tout the candles as sootless, smokeless, and easy on those with allergies. Anything you add to the candle goes into the air.

Well... I made the candle using the soap dye and and it didn't quite come out the way I had hoped. I didn't get the result I was hoping for (rainbow), but it still came out nice and I like the result. I guess I'll continue on my quest to find candle dye specifically (that's not an arm, leg and kidney) I'm still taking suggestions people -Camille

A rainbow coloured candle? Were you doing that in small layered pours? Stripes? I still think crayons will work quite well, as they are plain old wax, solid colour thru and thru.

Are you looking for a color block or liquid dye for the candles? Crayons can clog the wick. Buying supplies at the craft stores will cost you lots of $$$. I can refer you to a source if you'd like.

I was trying to do the rainbow stripes. The recipe stated liquid dye so if anyone can suggest a good (relatively inexpensive) liquid dye(s) I'll give it a whirl. Thanks.
