Canes hire skills coach, massage therapist - Canes Country

With training camp beginning Monday, the Hurricanes have made two additions to their hockey operations department.

Former NHL defenseman Peter Harrold, who played 274 games with the Kings and Devils, will join the team as a skills coach.

After not renewing the contract of former massage therapist Tristan Simmons, the Hurricanes needed to find a replacement, as each NHL team entering the “secure zones” in Toronto and Edmonton later this month are required to bring a massage therapist as part of their 52 allowed personnel.

Enter Mike Maresca, who previously held that role with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch.

‘CANES ANNOUNCE HOCKEY OPERATIONS ADDITIONS

New personnel hired for coaching and medical staffs

RALEIGH, NC – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has added the following personnel to its coaching and medical staffs.

Peter Harrold – Skills Coach: Harrold appeared in 274 NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils from 2006-15. The Kirtland Hills, Ohio, native registered 42 points (13g, 29a) in his nine-year NHL career and represented the United States at the 2009 IIHF World Championship in Switzerland. Harrold played four seasons at Boston College (Hockey East) from 2002-06 and appeared in two Frozen Fours, including the 2006 National Championship game. Harrold also served as captain of the Eagles his senior year.

Mike Maresca – Massage Therapist: Maresca joins the Hurricanes from the Syracuse Crunch (AHL), where he served as the team’s massage therapist for the 2019-20 season. Maresca has also gained experience at The Spa at 500, Art of Massage, New York Spine and Wellness and Massage Envy. Maresca is a graduate of Coker College and the Finger Lakes School of Massage.
