With its grand opening, Cape Cod Massage is working health and wellness into the community one treatment at a time.
The massage and wellness center, owned by licensed massage therapists Sarah MacDonald and Heather Pastore, offers a spectrum of services including 50, 75 and 90-minute massages with modalities including Swedish, deep tissue, sports, stretching, shiatsu, aromatherapy and reiki, as well as hot and cold stone, warm bamboo and cupping treatments.
MacDonald, a Cape Cod native, explained that the new location, which opened its doors November 1 in Marstons Mills, has a "very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere" and features three treatment rooms, a shower for body scrubs and high quality and organic products like oils, scrubs and body treatments. The Marstons Mills resident, who has been in the massage therapy field for 10 years, said the new endeavor is not only a place where clients can indulge, it's also a place where people can begin their journey to health and wellness.
"Massage therapy isn't just a way to pamper yourself - it's been proven to reduce various types of muscular and skeletal pain, as well as progressive disorders and diseases," MacDonald said. "We have a very robust menu of services that can help your body emotionally and physically heal from everyday life."
And while many typical massage and wellness therapy treatments can often be expensive, MacDonald said her establishment will not only feature affordable options, but also a self-care incentive program, which reduces prices when follow-up sessions are scheduled two to four weeks after the first session. The duo has also created a community wellness incentive program, which will reduce pricing for those in the area that are employed as educators or law enforcement officers.
"One thing we really care about is the local community and we will offer 25 percent off of all services to school personnel, police officers, firefighters, military personnel, medical personnel and massage therapists. These are the people that are helping to raise our children and keep us safe and healthy, and we want to encourage them to take a moment and take care of themselves," MacDonald said. "These policies will remain a staple at Cape Cod Massage and we hope to see many people take advantage of all we have to offer and do something positive for themselves."
MacDonald, who has always been fascinated by complementary and alternative therapies, was interested in the effects that massage can have on one's body, and actively began pursuing a career in massage therapy straight out of high school. She attended the Body Therapy Institute in North Carolina, passing the National Certification Examination for therapeutic massage and bodywork. After working within the massage field for a decade, she eventually became Pastore's teacher as she worked her way through massage school. MacDonald said Pastore had an "amazing talent" for the art of massage therapy, and quickly realized that the duo could create the "perfect getaway" for the local community.
"Heather was a fabulous student of mine and her work is stellar, and with our combined energy we knew we could get our mission out there and help as many people as we could," MacDonald said.
Pastore agreed, and said the most important aspect of their business is to continue to be community minded.
"We are of very like minds when it comes to massage and wellness and we embrace all aspects of wellness with the products we buy, make, sell and promote," Pastore said. "We care deeply about the environment, animal welfare and the health and wellbeing of our neighbors."
As Cape Cod Massage finds its niche at Windmill Square Plaza, MacDonald is confident that her staff can give clients the best there is to offer in the world of massage therapy.
"Not only have we been able to start something that we are passionate about, we have also become the perfect blend of two individuals coming together to accomplish something beautiful," she said.
