Opening thought: “But they, supposing him to be in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinfolk and acquaintance.” — St. Luke 2:44
The FiftyForward College Grove Center will be closed Monday. The book club meets Tuesday at 9 a.m. This month’s book is “Lone Wolf” by Jodi Picoult. This group gathers every third Tuesday. Phone Betty KirKeminde at 615-368-3222 for information on next month’s book and come join this busy group. Donna Jensen is now at our center on Thursday instead of Tuesday. Kathy McFarlane continues to give massages on Wednesday. A friend told me the other day that McFarlane literally saves her life, as the massage allows her to continue to be active. If you are experiencing a wide range of “hurts and bumps,” consider making an appointment with one of our licensed therapists. Please make certain you have reservations for Wednesday’s birthday potluck luncheon. Archaeologist Aaron Deter-Wolf is the after-lunch speaker. He will discuss sites and excavations in the College Grove area. Do you like to quilt, or would you enjoy learning about it? The group meets each Thursday at 9 a.m. So much more is happening in the Grove. Phone 615-368-7278 to discuss opportunities you may be missing.
Sincere sympathy to the family of our community’s Harry Polk. Harry passed away on Dec. 22. To Anita and the entire family, our love and prayers continue for you. We also send many condolences to the family of Chapel Hill’s Dawn Karpinski. This lively lady came to town and joined right in, helping with food, friendship and sometimes an opinion or two. Her giving spirit is going to be missed.
Happy birthday today to Don Jackson and Carolyn Barham, Monday to Betty Rapier and Brentwood’s Janet McKeown, Tuesday to Anna Leopard and Mary Vorhees, Wednesday to Earl Stewart and Bethel Ray, Thursday to Sylvia Adams, Friday to Jack Wilson and the wonderful Clara Parrish, and Saturday to Deborah Enos and Darrell Billingsly. Hope you are keeping warm from the many hugs and kisses you are receiving.
Congratulations to the University of Alabama on representing the SEC so well as national football champions. Roll Tide! (Me? Saying that?)
Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday will be observed Monday. Robert E. Lee’s birthday would be on Tuesday. National Pie Day is Saturday. That’s all the news I was given this week ... have a good ‘un!
Closing thought: “Top 10 ways to tell you’re an ‘old school’ Christian: 8. You know the fifth verse of every hymn with five verses. 7. You’re angry/hurt whenever they skip the fifth verse.” — Quoted in “A Laugh a Day,” a Hallmark Gift Book
