Chalk Marketing!

Has anyone ever used sidewalk chalk to advertise their practice? I was thinking of maybe chalking my website address and some mention of massage in a heavy foot traffic area (maybe where people run/walk/bike) and see where it gets me.

Thoughts? I'm assuming this is legal.

i think it's a great idea ~ i've never even thought of it! restaurants do it and i always love the way it looks. it does grab your attention. there's a HUGE father's day run coming up and they begin right outside of where my office is. i'm going to have to check into doing this! of course i'll have to get someone else to write for me, my writing sucks and noone would be able to read it!

I thought it was a great idea too terab, but it may be illegal. I can't find any info on my city but I did find some on nearby cities saying it is illegal. Something about defacing public property. You may want to check the laws in your area.

Maybe you could blend it in with the graffiti on your building! Just kidding.

My opinion whether it is legal or not is that it would look trashy, like flyers on telephone poles. Although I have seen photos of a sidewalk chalk artist and it was amazing, but it was art not advertisement.

It does have the potential to be trashy, but it could also look ok. I think it would depend on how it was done.

i went to one of my favorite restaurants today and they are always writing on their sidewalk about 4 feet from the door. it doesn't at all look trashy! i think it looks awesome and i always read it (as well as everyone else walking in). it's written in 2 different colors with really nice handwriting.

i can't see that it's "defacing property" if ....one, it's on your/landlords property... two, it washes away almost instantly when wet. i think if you did it right, it would be a wonderful idea!

As with most things, you will always get different opinions.

It may or may not be illegal in the US but for me what it shows is someone who is thinking outside of the box as far as their marketing is concerned.

It is this type of 'creative' marketing that can make a big profile for your practice. What I mean is finding a legal way of marketing yourself no one else or very few others have considered is great way of sticking out from the crowd. Sticking out from the crowd is the main object of marketing is it not?

Well done. Even if you are unable to use this idea I am sure you will find another of a similar ilk.
