if these high earning fathers leave their wives and children without money then its time to leave them , family allowance is not enough to feed a family anyway

this was usually in the past. i agree that most working families do not need this money anymore. my wife only withdraws the child benefit once or twice a year and uses it towards a holiday, or she usually wastes it on a shopping spree buying ridiculously priced shoes and handbags. let the people who really need it have it.

That might have been the case in the days of a cash society. Now salaries, child benefits and tax credits all paid into the bank. Either parent with a cash card can keep withdrawing until the machine says "no more money" - then they try feeding in their credit cards and selling their bling. When the bank wants it's money back, they get an IVA and the taxpayer has to bail out the bank.

We need a benefit system to keep children out of poverty. We don't need a benefit system to make the rich even richer.
