child with migraine

[Facts Straight]

Hi

I have my very first client and its a 10yr old child that suffers with migraine. Any advice would be most welcome.

Not come across someone with this problem who is quite so young - has it been diagnosed by the GP? Any investigations done? Are the teeth OK? Diet?

I would tend to work gently initially, basic stuff covering all the usual areas, and rework any really tender points, but notenough to cause 'discomfort' as it would be really beneficial if he/she wanted to come back for more!

I agree - has it been diagnosed by the GP? Any investigations done? Does the history tie up with anything in the diet or lifestyle?

Migraines can be caused by dehydration (don't suggest gulping down 2 litres of water), also sluggish digestion/constipation. Adequate hydration in the diet, normal exercise (brisk walking etc.) can help digestion. As can singing and dancing round the living room .

A good honey in the diet can help lubricate the digestive system and treat headaches as well. Honey must not be given to the under 2 year olds.

It was through having a migraine as a teenager it was discovered that I had meningitis I ws rushed into hospital. I'm not saying that's the case here, but it's essential that it's checked out by a GP.

Hi Jo - I have suffered from migraines since I was 8 years old. Initially they were caused by a food intolerance - after keeping a food diary it was apparent that they happened when I ate too much dairy - and a need to wear glasses. This helped to keep them at bay until I went through puberty (about 12) I then started getting them 2 times a month.

It was only through seeing a Reflexologist in my 20's that I was able to regulate my cycle so that I could 'pre-empt' my trigger times and now avoid all dairy around ovulation and 2 days prior to first day of my period as a result I have had significantly fewer migraines in the past 8 years.

It was really important to me having my migraines confirmed by my GP (as then I knew that it wasn't anything serious). Following years of medicines I really wish that I had found a Reflexologist when I was younger!!!

I found that the general relaxation moves helped a great deal and also working on my shoudlers/head/eye reflexes relieved a lot of unneccesary tension. Also this is wear I feel the pain and discomfort the most during attacks.

Hi I treated my friend's son who had been diagnosed with migaines. I agree with what's been written already about checking with the GP.

When I treated, I made sure that he understood what I was doing. He was really intruiged by it all. I only treated him for a short time - probably about 25 mins. I included relaxation techniques plus head/neck/shoulders/eyes plus digestion. He came about six times. In the end he used to bring a book with him to have a quick read.

Dairy has been mentioned. The other one in children is oranges. (As well as the obvious one of chocolate).
