A man has been arrested for burglary and rape after allegedly breaking into a foot massage parlour in north China last November and launching a sex attack against a staff member, according to mainland media.
The suspect, who was identified only by his surname Wang, admitted to the police that he had carefully planned the crime, online news portal Iqilu.com reported on Saturday.
On a cold, rainy winter night in a rural township in Jining in east China’s Shandong province, a woman foot massage worker was reportedly bound hand and foot, and forced to surrender her cash and bank cards to the burglar.
“Once coming [into the parlour], he took out a knife to threaten me ... and said he was going to kill me,” the Shandong news portal quoted the victim, whose full name was not given, as saying.
A police investigation indicated that Wang allegedly raped the worker on the ground floor of the parlour and stole her belongings.
The victim reported the case to the police after the suspect fled.
One month later, another foot massage parlour in the same township was targeted in a break-in and ransacked by a young man in a similar fashion. Authorities are investigating whether the two incidents were related.
Wang was caught after the local police reached out to the local community for help.
The suspect was quoted as confessing to the police that he carried out the burglary to “raise money for a project in southern Nanjing city” as he was facing a cash shortfall of about 30,000 yuan (US$ 232,700 or HK$232.721).
