Hey folks,

I write a marketing blog for massage therapists and bodyworkers. This week I got a question from a new therapist who is moving to a new town. She has two locations to choose between. Neither one strikes me as worthwhile (and I told her that) but I don't think she should rely solely on my thoughts. Could you give her a little input?

I'd suggest to you, to provide her with a link to MassagePlanetL, if you are interested in our group providing her with opinions. But, that's my opinion and we all ave them. Others may feel differently. t017

I have provided the MassagePlanetL link to practically everyone who asks me questions. It's a great forum and I think a lot of people get good answers or at least broad feedback here.

HOWEVER, most people I send this way don't seem to be inclined to ask their question here. I don't know why this is.

Maybe because they've asked someone all ready they don't feel motivated to seek further. Maybe they mean to get back to it and forget. Maybe they're put off by having to log on (not that it's a big deal but for some people it is, I guess).

So I figured that since this MT is already talking to me, I would invite people who had already proven themselves motivated to help out a colleague from a forum that is active and useful. Maybe your words would convince her to visit MassagePlanetL.

Thank you for letting other Massage Therapists know about MassagePlanetL. For some reason I had thought you were an MT, but in reading your bio on your page, I am guessing this is not so.

What you may not know (or may), is that one of the problems with many MT's is that there is a large group who like to shake and move, but not settle down. From what I've seen over the years, it is the minority of MT's who put themselves on a forum like this and actually help each other out. Sure, it may be that your "MT" doesn't want to sign in, forgot or wasn't motivated. I'd venture to say it could be a little of all three with the "average MT's" track record. The MT's on our forum are not the average. We seem to be a head above the rest and I'm sure thankful for that.

Because of this, I don't want to spend more time trying to help someone who isn't motivated to come here. I'd like to help everyone in the world, I really would. But I have to pick what I do, with the time I have.

But thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'll keep a weathered eye out.

Totally fair enough.

Without trying to sound negative, I am completely flummoxed by how many people get into a business (any business) and then don't exert the effort needed to build and maintain the business.

From the MTs I talk to, my impression is that, while they get great technical training in schools, most don't get adequate marketing/business building training. So a lot of them are learning on the fly. And this what separates the successful from the flash-in-the-panners.

I posted this post to see if it was more successful way to get people who come to me to think more about their practice. To look at what others are doing. To get a wider viewpoint.

Sigh. Yes, Pete, you're right. If they can't be bothered, why am I trying. I guess if I don't try every reasonable idea that shoots through my head, I can't encourage others to do the same. But I understand that this wasn't the best way to do it.

And, no Peuppi, I'm not an MT. I hope I don't give the impression of being one. My specialty has always been taking small (read: tiny) businesses and making them more profitable. The company I work for hired me on 7 years ago for one little project. And I'm still there. I love working with bodyworkers and want them to be successful. Because, duh, if they're successful, we are too. It's a symbiotic thing.

The company I work for hired me on 7 years ago for one little project. And I'm still there. I love working with bodyworkers and want them to be successful. Because, duh, if they're successful, we are too. It's a symbiotic thing.
