Christie Brinkley has an important message on self-care to start the new year: In short, don’t be afraid to treat yourself, she says. In a new Instagram, the former supermodel posed on the beach in a red swimsuit to praise the benefits of massage after a long holiday season, and she encouraged followers to try one for themselves.
“You know how you get busy and you don’t make time for yourself…. Well, don’t do that,” she captioned the post. “Make time for yourself… get out of the house, take a walk around town, through the woods, or down a beach. Ride your bike, go to the gym. Relax, breathe, and let your mind wander. Laugh with friends! And if you can... and I hope you can… treat yourself to a great massage!”
She continued, adding that a recent series of massages completely alleviated her neck and shoulder pain. “I was stiff as a board… I was ready for a shoulder replacement and my neck was so tight I could hardly turn my head! Two massages later… I feel like a new person with a new neck and shoulder!” she wrote. “I used to think of massage as a luxury (and it is!) but it’s more than that… in the right hands, it’s therapeutic, healing, and energizing!”
And she’s not wrong. According to the Mayo Clinic, the benefits of massage include stress reduction, pain and tension reduction, improved circulation, lowered heart rate and blood pressure, and improved immune function.
“If you can’t get to a massage, get a roller and carve out some time to really roll out the knots so your energy flows!” Brinkley concluded.
Fans thanked her for the encouragement and of course, couldn’t help but compliment her magical matching swimsuit and cover-up. “Sooo true! We are always the last one, taking care of everyone first,” one person commented. “I so agree with you that it’s an investment, but if you can afford it, it’s worth it,” another added. “You could wear any color but red takes you to another level ,” someone else wrote.
So, if you haven’t already, it’s not too late to follow Brinkley’s advice and add another resolution to your list. You won’t regret it!
