Christmas Cop Warning

It seems every year we get this same 'Christmas Cop Warning" from different people, about how during Christmas time the TJ cops or their superiors order rip off hits on tourist especially gringo tourist visiting the zona. It certainly sounds plausible as who couldn't use a little extra bonus money around Christmas time?

But this year it was suppose to be the 'perfect storm' for the TJ cops and the their bosses up higher on the food chain. We were not only going to get the usually Christmas shake down, but we were also going to get a change of local Tijuana government where not only the mayor was going to be changed but also the top brass in the TJ police department were also going to be let go, and it was said they were not going to go quietly. It was said the top brass was going to order the TJ cops out in force to rob the tourists especially the sex tourist, meaning you and I! It was said a kind of anarchy was going to take place in the streets of Tijuana, and we were told we were warned.

So now Christmas is just about over, except for the 3 wise men holiday ending at Jan 6, but if this was a football game, I'd call the game already, because I haven't heard of any increase of crime this holiday, nor did I see anarchy out on the streets of TJ by the TJ cops during the holidays and the new mayor is already in office.

If these warnings we get every year were a firecracker I'd say the firecracker turned out to be a dud that fails to ignite?

But it's really hard to see what happened one way or another, because we don't get crime statistics on TJ shakedowns we only have sites like this to go by, or things we witness. But looking at these rip off reports it doesn't seem like we got anything out of the ordinary, and you also have to account for the bullshit reports that people make up for one reason or another. If I did see a increase it was a increase of guys getting stopped while in a taxi, and we did see a rash of reports about surfer dudes getting jacked on the Baja highway, and those stories have already disappeared.

Now some will point to the new mayor Jorge Ramos and the conservative PAN party as being the reason. But it was said the reason why the Surfer dudes and baja racers were getting hit was because of the new mayor to show him he can't stop nothing, and I personally witnessed guys getting pulled over right and left outside the zona about two weeks ago outside the zona, so I know things aren't exactly cleaned up.

I have a good mind to put this Christmas cop warning in my TJ myth thread along with the donkey bar, and all SGs having padrotes, but I'll hold off waiting for more possible TJ cop rip off reports.

But if I were to make a guess, I'd say the TJ cops do what they alway do, and that's taking the opportunities that come their way, like a drunk griingo with a few pills of viagra telling him he is going to jail unless he pays the cop directly, or they stop people that look like easy marks for them, and really don't put much weight that the TJ cops are ordered to seek out people to rob just so their boss can buy his girlfriend a nice gift?

Anybody here of any Christmas cop rip offs that I may of missed or have any evidence of a increase of TJ police actively during the holidays. I hear homicides are down in Los Angeles, and the LA mayor is taking credit for it. What do you think of the new TJ mayor, and is he doing a good job?

Before long the number of chicas in the Zona will drop as they start returning to their hometown to spend Christmas with family. Many won't return until warm weather arrives.

In the final weeks before Christmas expect the time needed to cross the border to increase. There will also be very heavy traffic near the border as many Mexicans with visas will be shopping at the Outlet Mall on Camino de la Plaza and elsewhere.

I enjoy the holiday season in Tijuana. In the final weeks before Christmas I always like to visit the open air markets near the Cathedral. Some years I've also watched Three Wise Men parade in the Zona Rio.

The new administration takes office on December 1st. It will take time for time to appoint new officials and get the reigns of power in their hands. During the first few weeks I expect a sort of anarchy to prevail, making things especially dangerous for mongers. Only time will tell if the new administration will eventually be able to assert control over the police and reduce the problems tourists face. For our sakes I hope that happens.[/QUOTE]

Amen to that. I would love to see the corruption cleaned up, the police have really been increasingly worse in my experience. The city suffers from bad management, just like a poorly run business the first thing you notice is bad behavior from employees.

Thanks Burt for a comprehensively cautious and timely post about the possible problems during the Christmas season. Yes it is CHRISTMAS and Not those darn Happy Holidays we talk about in the U.S. to be politically correct and please everyone ! Coming back, I think all in all week before and after christmas can be avoidable considering the increased cop rush, lesser girls quality, increased immigration lines.....
