Christmas Day

Despite the fact I have just got back from LOS,I am planning to return over the festive period and was wondering what,if anything,is open on Christmas Day.The reason I ask is that I will have to work most of Christmas Eve so my flight will leave late on Christmas Eve and arrive early evening on Christmas Day! Will any bars be open or will I have to content myself with the festivities at my hotel? I would love to be out there for Christmas Eve but no can do. Also if I do not have a hotel pick up from the airport will there be any taxi drivers working? Any info would be appreciated.

i wouldnt mind knowing wot its like at xmas as well,i only got back 3 weeks ago,but i cant wait til xmas thats to far away,i have booked up to go back in september,i know its quieter in september,but i like the quieter side of life,not to many people suits me.gotta stay in for like 12 weeks now tho as thats the only way i gonna be able to afford it.

i came back just over a week ago so i know how eager you are to get back out there because i am the same trying to save everything possible.anyway as for christmas i was in pattaya christmas gone and everything was as normal so even if some people are not working others will be no worries.the thais only really take time off work if for example it is the kings birthday or something connected to buddha.

Thailand is a Buddhist Country.

Christmas is not celebrated here.

In tourist areas you will be lots of Merry Christmas banners and lots of restaurants (usually farang owned) advertising traditional Christmas dinner.

It is not a holiday I have to apply for Annual Leave on Christmas Day each year. Where I live it is just any other day. Suits me fine.
Certain big foreign companies close down for Christmas as the workers like to return home at that time, and the Thai's don't complain, they'll take a day off for anything (often without telling anyone - LOL)

Thailand has more public holidays than any other country (I'm told). Christmas is not one of them.

The funny thing is that the government allowed bars to stay open all night at _Christmas_ and New Year.

However, Christmas to New Year is the busiest time of the year for Mai Thai Bar and also many hotels are 100% occupied during this time.

Thanks guys for all your replies. It just goes to show how narrow minded you can be about other countries. I am so used to everything being closed on Christmas Day in England so it`s a welcome relief to know I won`t be walking down an empty Soi Bangla when I arrive.
