A fellow just left our office. He is a sign contractor. The city has hired him to set up kiosks in key places around town, pointing to various businesses in the city. I'm sure you know what I mean: a vertical frame with several smaller signs saying "City Hall ", "XYZ business ", etc.
It would cost $55 per panel (one on each side, or just one per sign, if we wanted). There is this *one corner* that is very close, that is literally on the way here for most people, and that is one of the busiest intersections in the city. It also happens to be half a block from the post office, and at the "other end" of the street we are on. I am thinking prime placement. It would cost us $110 to put up a panel on each side of this kiosk. (The other one they're putting up at the moment isn't such a "prime" placement- not nearly as much traffic passes that way, and what does, tends to already either pass our way or pass where the other kiosk will be located.).
Our town is one of a "sisterhood" of four smallish cities that are working both together and independently to grow and promote business development. As I said, the *city* is having him put these kiosks up; we would simply be "renting" the sign space from them.
If you had such an opportunity, would you do it?
ETA: The signs are going in next week; I don't think we *have* to decide prior to the signs going up, but it would be better, I'm thinking. And the cost of $55 is a sort of "early bird" discount off of the regular rate of $60/month. Also, we are not currently doing any other form of advertising- no phone book, no newspaper ads, or anything like that. I *think* our budget could sustain this, especially if it brought us new business. We also would not be locked into a contract- it is month-to-month, and if we don't pay, he just takes our sign(s) out. I neglected to ask if he could do a "full year" or "half year" prepayment of some sort- I don't like monthly bills![/quote]

Re: City Kiosk Sign- would you?
lol.....We signed the papers and handed over the check yesterday. We're going with "one panel on either entrance to the city". The guy had been pushing for leaving the one out that is at the intersection right off of the exit from the interstate, and putting up front-and-back on the one that is on the corner right by the school (a very busy corner- also leads to the post office and into the town from the other town. Hard to explain.) I brought up the point that just about ANYONE going TO the school to pick up their kids, would have come IN the same way, so would have already seen the sign from the "front side". After a very few minutes of discussion, and looking at traffic patterns on his little map, both the sign guy and DH agreed with me (wow! Imagine that!). So we're getting ONE side of TWO different signs. With the option of being put on more signs later, as they put them in. (They're supposed to put in several more around the area over time, and those who sign up with one or both of these first two, get first dibbs on any of the other signs- for a fee, of course.).Anyway, I think this is going to be a really good deal. 2 new clients a month will more than cover these.

Re: City Kiosk Sign- would you?
It's per month. No "setup" fee. I figured it out, and it's about the same as paying for a Yellow pages ad (a really nice one), over the course of a year. But this will be a sign out on the street, pointing to our place, saying "THERE- there is a massage place right over there!" (well, ok, maybe not in so many words lol!) We all concur that nobody much looks in the yellow pages for a massage therapist these days.

I am going to call him tomorrow and see in what direction the sign will be facing. If one way, then both could be good. If the other, then why have it pointing "backwards" to us, and then we'd only need to do the one side. Make sense? That's all I can think of.
