On Sunday, I saw a regular client who always wants deep massage combined with stretching. I didn't do anything any different. However, when I did the following stretch he immediately complained of low back pain and we stopped the stretch:
Monday he called complaining of "sciatica" so I told him to ice the area, perhaps apply a horseradish poultice (for nerve pain), use of arnica and try gentle piriformis stretching. He then told me the pain is radiating into the IT band and quads.
I'm stumped. He's had this pain before, and it sounds like there could be something going on with L5, but I'd like to know what you guys think could be the problem.
Thanks in advance!
