Does anyone offer their existing clients a reward for sending you new people? I was thinking something like send 3 friends get a free massage. How does this sound?

This is a great idea, but be sure to mention that the referals have to book and keep an appointment. You may want to give the new customer a small discount as an incentive to come in also. You will also have to keep track of how many new referals come per current client, such as a punch card or a star on the back of a business card.

I'm still in the process of building my business. Because I live in a resort town (Cozumel, Mexico) many businesses offer commissions for referrals. I currently offer a $5 commission or $10 credit towards a massage, for each new client referred. That way they don't have to wait until they have referred enough for a freebie, they can refer 2 or 3 and pay the difference. There are many people here who cannot afford a massage, so this is a good way (I think!) to give them a chance on my table.Sally

I send all new clients a welcome letter and coupons for their friends for $10 off their first massage.  The referring client will get $10 off their next massage for each client they refer (after the appointment).  I will allow them to use up to 2 of these discounts at one time.  Of course, if someone referred an unusual number of clients to me in a short period of time, I would certainly give them a free massage!

The referral system I have goes like this...Send in a family member or a friend and they will get $10 off of their massage and the person who referred them will receive 1/2 off of their next massage.  I tried to do it where they get a free massage after 3 but to me it was too much work to keep track of and it didn't seem like much of a thank you.  A free massage is great but the client would send someone in and they didn't get an immediate thank you...they would have to wait for 2 others to come in.  That's why I changed mine.  Does that make sense?  I wanted to be sure that my client received a "reward" for each and every person they sent in.  I do this for any and everyone.  It's so nice and the client really appreciates it and I find they really go out of their way to get people in.  It's fun too!
