Cold callers

Hi fellow therapists

Do you get lots of cold calls from people trying to sell you advertising? I have had two lots on the phone talking about some scheme with the local pharmacist (yeah yeah, sounds suspiciously like advertising at GPs' surgeries), and the usual lot about advertising on doctors' appointment cards. I now stop them short by telling them that I don't advertise, I don't need new clients, and that I rely on word of mouth. Otherwise I know they will go on and on and they are all saying the same old flannel.

This cold calling really irritates me. I worry that other therapists are being taken in, because I don't know anyone who's done well out of any of these schemes. I know some of them ar legit, but others aren't. These people flatter you and butter you up, telling you that you've been specially selected etc. Please please please don't give them the time of day.

From the things that say to me, they seem to have got my details from the Embody website.
I say give 'em the elbow as well - and not ina 'no-hands' massage sort of way either!

Hi there

Over the past week the company I work for have been getting approx 5 calls a day from a company trying to sell advertising space on wall planners and desk planners etc, trying to offer stupid discounts and saying they have had it confirmed by a member of staff ( they are quick thinking and tend to come across as smart!) we have reported them and made a log of the phone calls, as some were becoming rude.

I wont mention the name of the business for obvious reasons but just be on your guard.

if you contact the telephone preference service, you should be able to stop all marketing calls for 12 months, you will find the number in your yellow pages, phone book or it can be done via the website, they also stop unwanted faxes and I believe a certain amount of junk emails, it does work just remember to re register each year, I have just done so again after the last 2 weeks of calls have prompted me as I had forgotten.

And you can register online too. It can take up to a month for all marketing calls to stop, but I found it certainly dropped off drastically within a couple of weeks. The good thing is that, after registering, if you do get any more calls you can just ask them for their company name and number (as if you are going to call them back) and then mention the telephone preference service and see how quickly they hang up. My quickest was someone who hung up within 1 second of me saying it and they didn't even say bye! hehe

Oh, and while I remember, the TPS doesn't stop you getting calls from people carrying out "lifestyle" surveys or that sort of thing; it only stops marketing calls.
