Cold therapy gloves?

I remember reading a post recently by someone who uses some kind of cold therapy gloves? Apparently one freezes them and wears them, rather than attempting to ice the hands with bulky packs?

I've been googling and froogling trying to find such a product, and haven't had any luck. Can anyone point me to a website?

I don't remember the post you are referring to, but I make ice packs by putting water & rubbing alcohol in a ziplock. I'd think soaking wool gloves in that solution would turn them into pliably frozen gloves.

Eeenteresting! I'm hoping to find a nice packaged product that I can email my client about, and perhaps stock for retail at some point in the future. I've kind of given up on the DIY/crafty stuff, at least for now.

There's a company called Elasto-Gel that makes all kinds of cold therapy gloves. I have a couple for myself and my husband. I bought mine on Amazon, but if you do a Google search, you can find them lots of different places.

One thing I noticed about the Elasto-Gel is that even when frozen, it isn't as cold as ice. Therefore, it's cold therapy, but not ice therapy. However, since ice therapy on the hands can be painful at first (and clients often resist it for that reason) maybe the Elasto-Gel is ideal for clients. Sjidoulamt, how effective are these gloves for you and your husband? Do they have a positive effect on pain/inflammation?

You are correct Blisss, the ElastoGel gloves are not as cold as ice. They are good for about 20 minutes of use before needing to go back in the freezer, which I was taught was just about the right amount of time for cold therapy before the joints would start to stiffen.

The gloves have been awesome for reducing inflammation on my husband (heavy computer user) and very occasionally me. I tend to do ice baths now.

That's awesome that the gloves have helped your husband. Is there a reason you choose the ice baths instead? Do you think the ice baths are more therapeutic, or is it just a personal preference?

When the issue was simply my own mega-computer use, the gloves were fine. When I started doing 5 massages a day, 5 days a week, it became necessary to do the ice baths for my hands and forearms... occasionally an Advil if I did a lot of deep tissue that day. I don't prefer it... I kinda hate it and my hubby has to remind me all the time.

I set up a trade with someone in my area who is an occupational therapist, specializing in upper extremity rehabilitation; I can't wait to learn some *mad skillz* from him.

*that's what the kids say now these days, right?

Hi Folks,
A great and really cheap method is to use a large bag of frozen peas. They (the bag) will conform to any body part, provide the "perfect temp" for edema/pain reduction and it can be use 100's of times. I keep two bags in my freezer for this reason...if you want to maintain numbing effect for post-trama injuries, ect.
You may also want to try contrast baths....very powerful for edema and pain...but will not stiffen joints like cryotherapy alone....

A few months back, I had a pretty heavy load at work, and my hands and forearms hurt and felt weak, and I did the contrast baths..filled one sink with hot water and the other with ice cold water, and I'm telling you it worked excellently..I did it for like two days...it did the trick! Good luck!
