i dont have time to write full reports yet, but i'll make a small update.

i was over in macau, long story short, didnt monger, did gamble. won big, then lost it all, plus a little more.

visited a relative in anhui, will make reports on saunas and ktvs if anyone cares for those information. i have info on 1 legit massage parlor, 2 not legit, and 2 not legit ktvs. i know the names, and maybe the address, i was drunk half the time, so too bad.

just got back to shanghai today, more relatives visiting making it very hard to slip off on my own, but will try.

i am going to be in pudong for the next few days, then going to puxi, will have reports all the hobbying done here.

I have only used these two, don't know about the others, try to check online and compare.
I have found that, sometimes, some hotels are cheaper on one or the other, this is probably true for all internet bookings.
I have never had to supply credit card details for these hotels, paid cash at reception - don't forget at some hotels there is a deposit payable when you check in.

good luck finding a room to stay for your work because it's literally booked months in advanced, happens every year. It's not a very good period to go mongering because people during these holiday travel back home to see their families. Yeah man, I will be there and feeling kinda flush. I ve been here 2 years and experienced all of shanghai's wonderful delights. I can show you to the the best brothels in town if you like chinese but the best route to a good root over here is to reach out to the phillipne commuunity. They are a little more $$$ but worth it, they do all kinds a crazy shit theres a few of them I know youd love to meet. Btw, Im not apimp, justa fan of this site!

I think you can get all types of drinks that you'd get in the US.
Beer is pretty ok, I havent been able to gt Amstel or I havent been to the right places.

For mongering...you would see from the huge reviews that Sauna places are the best way to go and due to your ethnicity you may be charged lesser for sure. Im not even Caucasion but they keep mistaking me for one and I keep getting charged whats the going prices on discussions here - esp since i am a foreigner after all.

For quicker cheaper action, dig up stuff on XY Bar, no need to negotiate etc, its one of the straightforward places around.

Massage places with red lights might get you a hand job for sure. BBJ or CBJ or even FS could be possible according to place.

In your case, you could actually get the numbers of the gals and call em over later when they are not at their mamasons....

i was born there, and can speak both mandarin and shanghainese fluently. i look local, outside of my wardrobe, which is a little americanized (im sure there are calvin klein suits in china as well, maybe different style), i doubt they will even try those scams on someone who looks like me.

none the less, i did read some of the older scam threads.

to be honest, i'd be very interested to find out types of drinks that are offered there. my normal drink is a 7and7 over here in the states, is seagram even offered there?? if not, what is there? i not crazy about beer. last time i was there i was 16, remember drinking 绍兴黃酒, taste like syrup, i had like 4 bottles and got plastered. but that's not exactly a bar drink.
