OK I guess this has been asked many times before .. but whats the knack in trying to beat the BG's at Connect4 ?

They're so damn good. It can't be intelligence .. or even just practice.

There has to be a technique ????

put the pressure on them - make sure they have to buy a drink if they lose

Control the middle is good but they know that too. It is playing slightly out of the ordinary that gets them confused. You can tell if you playing the 'standard opening' because they will play very fast or pay little attention.

I probably only win about 70% of the time (10% they are too good, 10% I am drunk, 10% i am stoopid).

Funniest trick in the book tho is to look/stare in a concerned manner at a spot away from where you dont want them to go - they will think you are worried about this area and drop their piece there and not go where they should. This is the only way you 'should' be able to get a vertical 4 in a row

That´s really funny. I just had the idea yesterday evening to practise it a lot before I go to LOS and found an obviously really nice (and strong) one: Here english Website Interface starts in german, go ahead like in the pic... I hope the TGs don´t play BackGammon or Chess as well :mad2:

The girls usually let you go first when they win, so try starting off in different ways and then watch which options they take. It's nothing special that they have, they are just like robots that have perfected the same technique by playing over and over again.

I sat with a girl one night who loved playing this game and after about 20 games I had only won 2 or 3. I then reckoned I had it sussed and said "we play for money ?" She agreed and the stake was 50baht. I beat her and immediately she refused to play any more, plus after that none of the other girls would play me either !!

Once you learn how they play, it's easy.

What you can do is Bar Fine a TG....for LT....Take her back to Hotel, and play Connect 4 all night....then you will be a competative force.....for only 1500 baht.

It's funny, but I always win when I start, then lose rapidly when I start to bet on the game ---- isn't that odd? .......

Definitley all about control of the center of the board tho' - after that it's damage limitation and a 'counting' game.

The mamasan of a bar in Karon was trying to teach me how to play some solitaire like card game. She said it had something to do with fortune with many references to good luck and money. Anybody know what this was?

Be careful, they know all kinds of card games and love the buzz of gambling. I am quite a sharp card player and am usually successful whenever I play, I only play their games to beat them and then watch them get all emotional when they are losing. Nasty of me I know, but great fun watching them get all hot and flustered over a game of cards !! In a bar in ChiangMai during the World Cup In June 2002, one of the girls behind the bar taught me her own game and then proceeded to lose around 1,000baht to me. she kept seaying that her luck would change and she wouldn't quit, in the end she had no money, had taken an advance from the mamasan and none of the other girls was willing to lend her any more, so she quit and went off in to a corner to sulk !! About an hour later I settled my bill and gave her her money back, explaining to her that she had just been taught a lesson.

Next night, I went back to the bar and as soon as I sat down the cards came out !! I refused to play and didn't play with her any more after that either. I felt sorry really, as she just seemed to have it in her blood and just laughed at me when I mentioned taking all her money. I suppose I shouldn't have given it back, then she would have been hard hit, but I didn't have the heart to do that after all, I was just having fun !!

I have heard some stories about guys being taken for a ride when playing cards, so be careful whatever the game.

On my first trip to Phuket in 89, I was playing with a bg. Didn't take it too serious as there was nothing at stake. After me losing 4 games in a row she says if you beat me I go home with you for free. I proceded to win and took her back to the room for some boom boom. She left the room at 10 am, asking what I was going to do that day. I said I was gonna sleep a while and hang out at the pool later. She comes back at 11:30, and gets me UP again for some more action. I bought lunch and we swam a while and went back for more action in the room. The girl was a nympho. Spent the better part of two weeks with her.

I was doodlebugging in Somalia at the time and was in the LOS 5 times from 89-91. Ran into her again on my next trip, but she was spending time with another falang, so I found several other outlets. Although she did come to my room at the Expat out of the blue and screwed the hell out of me.

Were you diving for water or other minerals (oil ??) etc.. Interesting topic. I knew a dowser who used to divine with a pendulum for all kinds of elements, I myself have exhibited a fairly strong ability in finding water courses using the 2 copper (crossing when found) technique..

Or am I barking up totally the wrong tree ???

You're on the right track. Doodlebugging is a term for seismic oil exploration. Got it's name from back when they used to use dynamite to get the shot record. You'd drill a hole and plug it with dynamite and record the shock wave. We used vibrators, not the dildo kind, to shake the ground and record the formation data.
