Contraindications / GP referal

I have had an enquiry from a prospective client who would like to have indian head massage. she has diabetes (insulin dependant) and is undergoing kidney dialysis three times per week which leaves her quite tired and achey all over. She has tension around the back and shoulders. I know these are contraindications and I require GP referal but which way would you advise me to go about it? The client has given me her doctor's contact details and has consented for me to contact them on her behalf. Should I write to him, ring him or arrange an appointment to see him. I reallywant the doctor tosay it is ok to treat her as I think it would do herthe world of good to help her general wellbeing and to reduce her stress levels andtension but it would also be a great opportunity for me to develop new skills and learn more about the ailments.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Iwould suggest that the client get the GP consent in writing rather than you contacting anybody.

If the client is unwilling, or it would take too longto wait for an appointment to see her GP to discuss complementary therapy, then it may be quicker to writeto her GPto outline the treatment you would like to give - enclose an SSAE, as this might stimulate an early reply. You are very unlikely to be able to make an appointment to see him to discuss her treatment - confidentiality and all that.

we were told at college that while we had to get a referral for contras it was unlikely that a GP will respond or if he/she does it will be so non commital it will basically say its up to the client to decide
I have never had a case yet but ...........
Ireally believe that adults should take responsibility for their own treatment and if they are advised they need to get a doctor's approval they must do it not me
so if I advised someone and they tell me the doc says it ok i make sure they sign the disclaimer bit on the consultation form that says.

I'd be interested to know if this is the right thing to do
Iam awaiting a response from my insurers on this but would love to know what others do
