contraindications - haemophilia?

Hi all
I have recently started the ITEC IHM course at local adult ed class. Homework this week have been asked to write about particular conditions and why these would contraindicated to IHM, most can figure out, but don't know why haemophilia should be one and its not in my text books? Anyone have some ideas?

I had a client with this condition. The clotting of blood is a problem with this condition. My client used to suffer with nose bleeds too. So in the scalp you need to be careful about contracting infections if the scalp is sore etc.

You could always wear special gloves, or over the phone when asking brief questions ask if they have any serious infections etc and during your consultation too.

Hemophilia is contraindicated for most cases unless the condition is mild and the client gets medical clearance, massage is likely to cause subcutaneous bleeding (bruises), nosebleeds and bleeding into joint cavities, which is one of the main problems, as once it is inside the joint cavity it can cause arthritis. Energetic work is more appropriate for them.

It's not worth taking a risk massaging clients with this condition.

Yes, haemophilia is contraindicated for most massage therapies because, as sufferers have no clotting factor 8, any break in even the minutest capillaries could cause a massive bleed, resulting in internal bruising and haematoma. One of the effects of massage on the skin is erythema, which is reddening caused by increased blood flow to the area. Any tear in any blood vessel could be harmful.
