ADEL — Cook Medical Center is celebrating women’s health and breast cancer awareness – diva style.
The hospital will host its 8th annual Day for Divas event on Oct. 29. The women’s wellness event will be held at a new indoor location, the Cook Middle School Cafeteria in Adel, from 9 a.m. until noon.
“We encourage all women of any age to attend this fun and exciting event. Cook Medical Center wants to empower women with the information they need to make healthy decisions,” hospital Public Relations Coordinator Liza Tillman said. “We are looking forward to this new location to allow us to focus even more on women’s health, rain or shine.”
Area women are encouraged to take advantage of free health screenings for blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol. Participants receiving screenings are encouraged to stop eating and drinking at midnight the night before to ensure accurate test results. The first 200 registrants will receive a free swag bag, stuffed with goodies and a T-shirt.
Ladies can also enjoy hand and arm massages provided by the cosmetology department at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, as well as chair massages provided by local massage therapist Beth Robinson. Light refreshments will be available and a live DJ will be at the event. Vendors will be on hand to offer health and wellness information.
A Diva Day fashion show will be held at 11 a.m. featuring local cancer survivors and little divas. Models will show off the best looks for fall from local retailers, including Polka Dots, Goody’s, LulaRoe by Denise Purvis and Touch of Nature Cosmetics.
Breast cancer is a random and deadly disease that will take the lives of an estimated 40,000 women and 430 men this year. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. About 1.4 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Currently there are more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors, including women who are still being treated and those who have completed treatment.
