Cool bars and clubs outside of the Gulch

Does anyone have a comprehensive listing of bars and clubs where it is easy to pickup chicas outside of the gulch? I'm thinking of places that are safe, but off the beaten tourist path. I heard Bar Castro was good. However, I heard it may not be wise to go without a Tico friend by your side. I also heard there were cool places in Escazu, Cartago and Allajeula.

I would like to hear from the locals? Can you send a list with a short description of each? Things I want to hear about: Location (address), chica quality, chica prices, safety, general atmosphere.

I'm looking to expand my horizons on my next trip.

Bar Castro is safe, I have gone there many many times. If you are a p#ssy or a trouble maker then maybe there could be trouble . Younger crowd.

Tobogon is the place to dance and listen to a live band. Big place with lots of room and a middle class crowd. Right north of town on the highway to Limon.

Bosque Bar In the hotel san Jose Palicio hotel. Upscale tico crowd with a few gringo hotel guests thrown in, air conditioned, live bands, classy place but not alot of available women YMMV. Better to bring a chica there.

Jazz Cafe in San Pedro. Live bands mainly jazz, classy place all ages quite a few women there the times I visited. Good place to pick up a horny Tica Rica Bonita.

I didn't get a chance to make it to the opening of Club Vertigo but i would assume this might be a great place to meet chicas, since it's a rather big club.

I'm not a local and I'm by no means an expert on this subject but I've been to the Jazz Cafe and would have to qualify ZMan's comments in that regard. Don't get me wrong the Jazz Cafe is a truly WONDERFUL place to go for some classy entertainment, but I'm not so sure how good it would be as a "pick-up bar". First of all, its as much a performance center as a bar, certainly not a "dance bar" or a bar with background music. People go there to listen to the music. They sit at their tables, perhaps casually chatting with their companions in hushed tones (so as not to disturb the performance), but certainly not getting up, moving around in front of the stage and striking up conversations with people at other tables. The other thing is that while I've seen some attractive ladies there it has always been with their dates. To be fair, there might be some opportunity for social interaction with others outside your group before and between sets, but I don't really see it.

My question for ZMan is this: have you ever really gone there and actually picked up any chicas or has your experience been more like mine where you've gone with a novia or other friends mainly to enjoy the show.

My question for Chi-Trekker is this: you say "chica prices", does this mean you're looking for just another place with pros that you can proposition or are you really talking about places to try to suavely pick up non-pros? Of course, the lines between pro, semi-pro and non-pro can often times be a hazy one, but I'm not sure how far you'd get in some of these places with a pick-up line like "How much?". If you're talking about tico versions of the Blue Marlin. There are places like Bar Monaco and Bar Taberna where the b-girl prices will be much cheaper but don't expect nearly the same selection or quality.

I have been to the jazz club 4-5 times. Always with a woman. But most of the times I have been there I have noticied quite a few groups of women, especially sitting near the bar area. Classy educated well dressed upper class or middle class TICAS. My kind of gals.

I agree with your comments Prolijo. It really is a place that showcases some of the best groups in CR. Before the band starts or in the breaks would be the best time to start a conservation.

Tobogon, Bosque Bar and Castros are all dancing places where the Ticas go to dance and it is a little hard to talk . So at those places if you do not dance it is tough.

One of the good things about Castros is the kareoke bar upstairs, it is not as loud but usually is packed on the weekends.

I just want to add that you guys should not be afraid to dance reggaeton.

Just go out catch the beat run you hands all over her and within a few minutes she will be grinding on your schlong. Put your hand on her #ss pull her close and grind away. It gets the gals really hot too.

Now I really like reggaeton but I got ritmo. Especially after 4-5 drinks.
