Couch roll

Hi

I have decided to go mobile and also home based for my therapy. Since posting on the forum about "establishing my business" I had a client who was very impressed with my massage that he has booked me in for twice a week. This is a real boost to my confidence. He also asked whether I would consider going mobile. I of course stated that I had considered it.

I just wanted to find out as at the moment I have just one client a night however my hours that I work in the evenings mean that I could have 2 clients a night. Obviously I cannot afford to buy towels and lugging them around from appointment to appointment will be tedious.

Is it ok for me to use towels for the base and cover that up with couch roll and then use a separate/clean towel to cover/drape the clients.

Just wondering what others do on this forum?

I have looked on this forum re safety around becoming a mobile therapist and there is some really good information which I've taken on board.

Hi There

I have a fitted towelling couch cover which I cover with couch roll and then use a towel over the client. Because the couch cover has couch roll over the top I consider that it is clean and hygienic enough to use for quite a few massages before I wash it.

I know what you mean about lugging all your stuff around when you're mobile. I find an Ikea bag big enough to hold everything I need.

yes that is practical. Have you considered using batiks or single sheets? thats how the americans do it and it saves hell of a lot of bulk. I got a pile of matching cotton batiks in matalan last autumn for £2 each when they were in the sale.
I've also got some authentic Balinese ones that I got in my kit when i did the Indonesian massage course.

yes, use the batiks instead of towels.

I put a couch cover on, then a batik, then a batik to cover the client. If I have a pillow on the couch, I cover that with a batik too.

Less bulky, easier to wash and dry, and you can get some really nice ones. Mine are balinese so give an Eastern feel to the treatments. They also drape nicely over the limbs.

p.s. I find that towels take a long time to dry, and especially when it is cold they can be quite damp

I use poly cotton fabric, 112cm wide, 2.2 m long for my 'sheeting', and 2.4m long piece of polar fleece as a 'blanket'. all incredibly light and fast drying. I do have a towel cover on the table to stop the bottom sheet sliding around, but I don't use a different one for every client, I just change the 'sheets'.

You can get poly cotton in lots of bright colours, oils wash out well, and they last for ages. Occassionally I'll buy fabric that forms those annoying little pilling balls over it like cheap sheets after a few washes, but most of it lasts really really well.

Works just like daisychain's batiks, though maybe even faster to dry and even a bit more light weight. I never use towels for massage.

Excellent idea - towels are very eco-unfriendly so this is a great alternative. I don't have a tumble dryer so this will be great - esp. in winter.

I went to Matalan and no luck but I did buy a single flat sheet which cost £5. I cannot afford to buy another one, so will just use a towel for the draping.

Will buy some more when the money starts rolling in.

you ahve to wait until autumn to get the sarong/batiks cheap at matalan and mustn't have any sequins on, etc, and be made of cotton. perserve

I found some sarongs at Instore for just 99p - they're very sheer though so I bought 3 - so I may just use a single sheet and then cover the client up with the sarongs. Will still be looking for the ones that daisychain mentioned through hopefully in the Autumn.

Flannel cot sheets are also useful for under/over clients - most big supermarkets have them - got mine in Tesco. Wash like a dream and dry on a radiator in minutes!

I always use sheets. I started using them for sports massage and just carried it on. It's so much better as not only are they easier to wash and dry but also they cover any size of client. Also easier to tuck around the body when doing arms or legs.

I got some fleece blankets from Ikea for around £2.00 each but haven't used them yet. I think they'll be good in winter - especially as I'm mobile and some people don't have the heating high enough. Not too sure about the draping and tucking in around arms and legs though. I think sheets are an excellent idea. Maybe a sheet over the body with a fleece on top folded away from the bits being massaged?
