Two city councilors are hoping to stickhandle their way past their city hall teammates to bring street hockey back to Toronto. Councillors Doug Ford and Michael Thompson are asking city staff to look into relaxing the bylaws banning road hockey.
Currently, anyone caught playing hockey on the street could be slapped with a $55 fine, although the bylaw has never been enforced. Ford and Thompson argue the rule goes against Canada's hockey spirit.
Ford told CP24 that road hockey should be allowed on side streets and dead-end streets with less traffic. Repealing or altering the bylaw would encourage people to get outside and exercise, Ford says.
