Courses for IHM?

Hello,

I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if this has been asked already..

I am currently starting out as a Reiki practitioner but i am considering adding IHM to my treatments.

Having done a brief net search, I can see there are various courses on offer from distance learning, one day courses, to night school courses and at various levels?!

I am a tad confused about them all. I am not drawn to doing it by correspondance, so other than that..what is the best way to do it? The prices vary so much too....

I just want to do a course that covers what i need to know without going into the uneccessary quantum physics of it all, that doesn't cost the earth and is reputable so i can add it to my insurance...any advice or recommendations please? I am in Leicester btw.

Unfortunately distant learning courses won't do this as you can't learn practical skills that way. But I think you have seen through this.

As for one day courses, if you are an experienced massage therapist it is possible to learn a simple routine and practice it properly. Many people do these one day workshops and find they haven't got the confidence to practice on the public, let alone charge money.

If you haven't got anatomy, physiology or even massage qualifications, you be best going to a college or private school that does longer IHM courses where you can gain a nationally recognised qualification and the skills to be able to offer a proper service. Typical qualifications to look for are ITEC, VTCT, C&G, LCIC.

Even though complementary therapies like IHM isn't rocket science, proper practical & theory training is necessary. It can be challenging, but with that comes confidence and success.

Thanks RP. You are quite right in that I had seen through the rather large drawback of not getting any practical experience with correspondence courses!

I think I need something partway between day course and full on college course. I have some A&P being a nurse & midwife but I am not niave enough to think i can be just shown a few moves and away i go, lol!

Thank you for your help. I shall keep looking and see if something suitable comes my way...it usually does when the time is right, despite my eagerness to want to run before i can walk..

I did a one day Indian Head Massage course with Gateway in central London. I went back for a second day as I couldn't take in and remember all the moves etc in just one day, we were a small group of about 8, very hands on and practical, which is what you need!

After this, lots of practice on friends and family to boost your confidence

I have just passed a itec college course in Indian head massage and can highly recommend it, it was 11 weeks 1 day a week and covered all that you need to know hope that helps also was not to expensive

There is a college quite close to me that does a lot of adult ed holistic therapies, IHM included. It is around £350 though which puts me off somewhat... does this sound about right? it is a fully acredited course but seems expensive or do i just need to accept that this is what it will cost if i take a proper acredited course?

I'm very biased, I did 50 contact hours over 17 weeks ITEC course so I think everybody else should do proper training

Is £350 a lot of money? A one-day so-called diploma course on IHM generally cost around £90 to £120. The typical price for a IHM session nationally is around £20. It wouldn't take long to get your costs back. Imagine what you could earn in 20 years? That's a good return for your investment and what/how else could you get that sort of return? And doing compassionate work is highly rewarding on a psychological level as well, not just the money.

Thank you Bunchie & Daisyrussell...and RP ...you speak a lot of sense, and have me convinced it is probably the best way forward for me, all things considered. I am not one really for cutting corners, especially in view of the fact that i am not an overly confident person to push myself forward with something i am not fully competent nor confident with.

Apart from anything else..it gives me an excuse to get out of the house for a few hours of an evening for a few weeks, lol!

And PS you get weeks of IHM as your will be practicing on each other. Your posture will never feel so good!
