Question Crackdown on Spam/Bump - spa promoters

No, I think you are correct to start this crackdown. I was a Mod at a couple of Message Boards so here are my 2 cents.

1. Have some kind of Appeal mechanism for now as it seems you are only starting to do this after things had gotten out of hand for a while.
2. Set some clear guidelines and stick to it. Make sure the Spas and/or Promotors know what they are.
3. A warning - written privately should be given and they should be encouraged to response before the crackdown.

You have to be quite transparent in these type of dealings and should be prepared to response to anyone either privately or openly if they challenge your ruling. Which is why I said you have to be very clear and not show any biases.

I have always tried to be as transparent as possible.

many folks got multiple warnings, yet some just choose to ignore them.

Guidelines are very clear and simple:

1. If you promote a spa, you can post once a day (schedule / new promo) whatever floats your boat.
2. You can engage users in your thread providing responses/requested info (as required).
3. You can post your spa in Classifieds section, update as many times per day as required and you get 1 free bump per day there.
4. You can post quick message about your spa in Shoutbox (1 time per day)

I am not a spa owner or promoter and I have no skin in this game.

I am sure you have been VERY open with the owners, but bear in mind many (most) of them do not have English as their first language. They might not comprehend the guidelines that well.
I have no idea how you can communicate better with them.
If this crackdown is to succeed, you would also have to look at multiple handles which can or will be used to circumvent your action. When you cast a wide net like this, some those of that are, through ignorance (which is not an excuse in itself) get caught up in it.

But, some spa owners see multiple postings - or so it seems of some of the spas by either individuals or spas themselves and they start to do it as well. Sort of a Monkey See, Monkey Do. Like I said, English not being their language of communication, they do not understand why others can do it and they cannot.

Anyway, I am waiting to see what fallout, if any, there will be from your action. And I should mention that like I said earlier, I support your Action but for now, I encourage you to have a Appeal process and also initiate a TIMEOUT period of maybe a week or so before they are reinstated rather then an outright ban.
