Crackers Delight

It was new years eve . My wife and I had to pay for a compolsury dinner at the hotel which was absolutely fantastic. After midnight we decided to hit the sreets to see what action was going on. After finding a cosy Go Go bar and settling in for a drink we came upon a little boy approx 8-10 years old selling fire crackers from a wicker basket. We had expanding whistles from the hotel we where staying at and where actively blowing them. This kid was so enthralled that all he wanted was the whistles. He almost gave me the whole basket of crackers. After paying for them which I insisted he decided to leave. Hero me thought I would create a huge bang by lighting the entire packet of one only to find it had a quick wick which nearly exploded there and then. I sh-t myself and threw the packet only for it to fall under a US sailors seat and explode. All of a sudden we where getting crackers thrown at us from everywhere. My God we had to get out of there fast. Decided s-x on the beach was a better option.

I was in Patong in early December, and the second day/night of my trip coincided with the King's birthday (5th Dec). All the bars in Soi Bangla were closed, but the shops were open. I saw people heading off to the beach with some kind of large paper 'circle thing' which they were calling 'balloons'.

Down at the beach they were being launched by the dozen, and a few other people had fire-crackers.

I'd have to say that I was unimpressed with the fire-crackers. They just seemed to go 'phhhhhhtttt!' with almost no noise.

I thought that our fireworks in the UK were quite pathetic, but they made those crackers in LOS seem tiny.

I have in mind that if my next trip to LOS coincides with the King's birthday I will try to bring some fireworks from the UK.

I personally want to read the trip report he will come up with later on, when he gets out of jail in 10 years time or so, from being charged by a terrorism law for trying to bring explosives on a plane...:aao:

This was a number of years ago and the fireworks were the equal of anything that was available in Australia in the 1970's. They were loud and the wicks could be either very fast or as we called the fizzers were they would not go off at all. Then again some would be perfect and go off just as planned. These were so good and the fact they were banned in Australia I took the risk of bringing 6 packets home concealed in folded up pairs of socks, along with more alchohol than is allowed on return. Twice the cigarettes as well. Would not do this these days though.:happyi:
