crunchy wrists

Hi all (knew the disgusting name would make you curious!)

I'm just wondering if there's anything you can tell me about my wrists. When I move them (flex, or rotate, etc), they make this sound that I can only describe as 'crunching', and they sometimes also make a cracking noise. It's driving me, and every one around me, mad.

Anything I can do?

I have the same problem Linzi. I find it very embarrassing if I'm giving a facial or head massage and there's all this clicking going on in my client's ears!

Hi,
I was told my osteopath so long as there was no pain then it wasn't a problem. I've recommended organic cider vinegar to many people and they've found it helped. You put two tablespoons in water and sip it each morning. There's no danger so long as it isn't too acidic for your stomach. But it certainly does help with joints,

I thought I was the only one with crunchy wrists.....put it down to the fact that I have broken both of them. My fingers crack too.

I take glaucosamine and cod liver oils which I think helps with the joints but the cracking is very embarrassing.

Clicking, crunching or indeed any of these sorts of noises from joints is called crepitus. A degree of this is fairly normal, but can suggest a degree of degeneration, but only tends to get painful when there's inflammation involved. When inflamed it's arthritis and when no inflammation - arthrosis, although it may just be that your joints are relatively hypermobile due to laxity of the ligaments, tendons and other connective tissues.

Creaky lot aren't we. "Physicians (therapists) heal thyselves". I'm sure thats why many of us became therapists, to find help for ourselves.

My right shoulder cracks and creaks when treating, must be very decrepit. I had osteopathy on it which helped a bit, giving up badminton also. My thumb does too sometimes so tend to use fingers more.

Andrew do you recommend the cider vinegar cure?

I'm glad I'm not alone! My wrist and hand bones click when I am treating people and it's a bit embarrassing. I have always been a very clicky person so I can't see it stopping. One of my feet even clicks when I walk downstairs!

My right hip goes off crack like a gun when I turn. I always say to clients 'Don't worry, that's my hip creaking, not you'. I don't just do this to reassure them I'm not breaking their bones, I do it in case they have identified the general area the noise came from and think I've pooped![sm=nuts.gif]

I remember being told that cracking knees and ankles etc happens when the nitrogen? in the synovial membrane "pops" to increase the fluid within the joint. Is this right?

hello,

Cricking, from the Traditional Chinese Medicine point of view, is a sign of "Blood stagantion". Joints have to do with the Wood element, and the taste going with it is... sour. So pickles and vinegar (in moderation) could help. Or if you are already craving sour things and having loads of it, then try to slow down on them. Millet grains, beet roots and green vegs all tend to help with Blood (in the TCM sense of the term) problems.
