DENVER -- Scammed by a local massage parlor, that’s how one customer says he feels after being sold a gift certificate, only to find out the shop closed its doors just weeks later.
Elevated health massage stopped responding to customers in January. Neighboring businesses say that’s when they shuttered the businesses doors.
Now some say their out hundreds of dollars.
Elevated Health Massage's website is still up and running, promoting deals and boasting about ailments they can treat.
But clients say instead of helping them de-stress their now left with more headaches and pain.
Clients like Christopher Daly, who every few months, likes to treat his wife to the spa.
“This is what they emailed and I had it printed,” he says holding up the gift certificate he purchased worth $100.
“Just relaxation from work. Go get her feet done, go get a massage, spend the whole day at a spa,” he says of the gift to his wife.
This one was a deal he found online to Elevated Health Massage on South Oneida street in Denver.
“They had lots of reviews and they boasted about themselves and all their pain management and everything,” he said.
But over the last four months as Christopher and his wife tried to book the appointment, their phone calls and emails went unanswered.
“I`m pretty picky about who I buy from and I fell for it,” he said.
Not wanting to believe he had been scammed, Christopher went one step further.
“I went to their offices and they were just gone,” said Daly
Gone he says, so FOX31 Denver Problem Solvers decided to pay elevated health massage a visit as well.
What we found was an unlocked door and empty room after empty room inside.
“I’m annoyed, a little embarrassed,” said Daly.
And he's not the only one annoyed or out their money.
Online the business' website is still up and running, but reviews are turning sour.
Other people like Christopher write in online reviews, "Good luck scheduling a massage here. They never answer the phone and don't return your calls."
“I think they should do the right thing by letting people know they`ve closed their doors and where they say they operate business they aren`t there, and give everybody their money back who bought these gift certificates,” Daly said.
Christopher did get his money back by going through his bank.
Messages to the owner of Elevated Heath Massage went unreturned. The business has a C rating with the Better Business Bureau.
If you find yourself in this same position you can file a complaint with the Attorney General’s consumer protection division, which can investigate and even prosecute the business.
