Customers Worked Over By Now Defunct Massage Spa - CBS Local

ALLEN (CBSDFW.COM) – More than a half dozen customers of Massage City in Allen contacted CBS11 accusing the owner of collecting thousands of dollars for expensive massages, then going out of business without warning.

“To totally close up and take off with people’s money is wrong,” said customer Cristy Crovella. She has receipts for a package of 12 massages for $420. Crovella claimed that she only used two before Massage City closed.

“It’s like stealing from people,” said customer Melissa Tatum, who has a receipt for a package of 12 massages for $480. Tatum said she only used half of them.

“If they had called and said we’re going out of business… I would have been sad, but not angry,” said customer Gerry Jackson. She has a receipt for a package of 10 massages for $350. Jackson said when she showed up for her first appointment, the business was already closed.

The three women met CBS11 at the Massage City store front on Main Street in Allen. The doors were locked. There wasn’t any contact information on the door. Crovella, Tatum and Jackson each said they called and left messages, but have not received a call or explanation.

CBS11 contacted owner Trudy Payton who said, “I tried to stay open, but couldn’t.” Payton blamed a combination of factors, including a loan application that was denied. Payton said she closed the business abruptly because she couldn’t afford to pay back clients with existing packages.

“I just would like my money back,” said Crovella. Several of the women plan to hire an attorney, or get police involved. Others plan to file complaints with the State Department of Licensing and Regulation.
