Danbury massage business expands; adds spa services

DANBURY โ Chill out on the beach, relax in the woods, find your Zen zone or be treated like royalty โ all without leaving Danbury.
As part of a major expansion to her massage business, Jenna Dallinga took over the second floor of 40 Lake Ave. Ext. and created themes in each of the rooms. Each room is unique with its own decor, lighting, music and scent. The Paradise Suite, for instance, features a cabana, a sand feature, the sounds of the beach and the scent of coconut.
โEach room has a powerful effect as soon as you walk in,โ the 32-year-old entrepreneur said. โEveryone I show has their favorite room. Thatโs my goal, for everyone to have a room to make their heart feel good. Itโs a feeling that feeds your soul and makes you feel special.โ
In addition to the physical expansion, Dallinga added skin care and full spa offerings. She changed the name of her business from Jenna Dallinga Massage to Therapeutic Massage and Wellness to better reflect the status of the company. She has five therapists, all with their own clients, and she didnโt want to hamper their business by having her name in the title.
Therapeutic Massage and Wellness has a room on the buildingโs first floor in the Hartsburg Chiropractic Health Center office. That room, she said, is mostly for medical massages.
Therapeutic Massage and Wellness offers various types of massages, such as neuromuscular, sports, Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal and active release therapy massage, which is popular among athletes. It offers massage therapy to auto accident victims. Spa treatments include body wraps, cupping and foot massage.
Dallinga said her business is one of the few around to offer lymphatic drainage massage. Dallinga took a 120-hour course to become certified. She said the light-touch massage helps the lymph system to clear waste and swelling, particularly following certain types of surgeries.
Each of her therapists are licensed and certified, she said, and the staff includes an esthetician.
โMy vision for here was about the whole experience. The goal is to create a beautiful atmosphere that people never want to leave,โ she said. โIโm extremely passionate about it and thatโs what makes it so special.โ
The buildingโs owner, Dan Ruggiero, was amazed at the transformation of the 1,800-square-foot second floor.
โShe did a tremendous job on the setup. Itโs upscale and comfortable. Her customers will be very happy,โ the landlord said. โSheโs very outgoing and has the right approach to her business. I think sheโll do well there. I couldnโt be happier about how that space is being used.โ
Dallinga said she made a significant investment to upgrade the space and add the room-specific lighting and sound systems.
โIt was quite an undertaking, but once I got started, I had to do it right,โ she said. โIt was nice to see my vision come to life.โ
Dallinga started her own business at 21 when she lived in Florida and had a house-call massage company. Business took off immediately and she counted some professional athletes among her clients, but she decided to return to her hometown of Brewster, N.Y., to be closer to family. She started a solo business at various spots in Danbury, including the Matrix Corporate Center, and opened an office within Hartsburg Chiropractic five years ago.
โIโm grateful that I could build up and expand the business to make things easier on my staff. We were doing 60 massages a week in one room,โ she said. โThis is a blessing for me.โ
