Hi I got a deep tissue massage at a spa today and the practitioner focused a lot on my neck. At times he pressed very hard on my neck and it hurt but I thought it was all normal part of DT massage. I have had massage before but never had anyone press so hard on my neck, it made me nervous but I figured he knew what he was doing. well now that I'm home I'm starting to hurt, and I went to their website to check the guy out and it looks like he's a salon owner/hairstylist... not a massage therapist... so now I'm really scared!!! What is normal for a deep tissue massage on the neck area????

It aims to release chronic patterns of tension in the body, through slow strokes and deep pressure on the contracted area(s). Deep tissue massage therapy is therapeutic as well as corrective, and done properly should cause neither excessive pain for the client nor strain for the therapist.
