Definitions

It's easy enough to look up words in the dictionary, to find their definition. But sometimes the definition really doesn't clear up what the word means.

The two words I want to throw out there are passion and sensual. Two words commonly used around here. These are two words that I know what the definition is, but I really don't understand what they mean.

One of the assignments I had in group last month was to work on something I was passionate about. I told the therapist that was a problem as I wasn't a passionate person. She pointed out I was a passionate reader/learner, and that passion doesn't have to be big and bold. I just don't see how that fits the normal use of passion myself, and I still see myself as a rather passionless person.

Maybe there's where I fail in my hobbying. I see sex as something passionate, and I am by nature passionless.

To me, passion is to care deeply about something, nearly to the point of being consumed by it. Something that seizes your attention and your interest.

Sensuality is to convey sexuality. It's the way a woman moves, touches, gazes or otherwise interacts with you. It's converting mere sexual acts into a fluid and cohesive experience.

Sex isn't necessarily passionate. Ask any SP!


I would think that fitness is a passion of yours now, Dave.

Sensuality may not be in your vocabulary as you haven't yet gotten comfortable in your own skin, or with your own sexual nature?

I believe the average person isn't passionate, they may enjoy an activity or love someone but it isn't all-consuming for them. There are degrees to which we fully live our lives, many sleepwalk through much of it without giving it much though.
When we see someone with a passion for life, it's marvelous to behold because it isn't as common as we'd like.

As far as SPs, passion doesn't have to come into play but we can create the illusion if we suspend our dull lives for an hour. That's longer than a rollercoaster ride and more memorable.

Sensual is all about not thinking, just concentrating on the physical feeling, getting lost in the touch.

Passion (outside of bed) is about what's important to you, what you devote your time to...I haven't found mine yet.

That puts me in mind of the sex scene from The Meaning of Life. The teacher and his wife are having sex and discussing who's coming over for dinner. But in all seriousness, I can understand that sex doesn't have to be passionate. How I see sex in my mind's eye, passion is part of it.



This is entirely possible. While I may be lacking sensuality, I am very sensate,

I do like CG's definitions. I have yet to find something that catches my heart though
