Degenerate Discs

Hi All,

Can anyone explain to me, exactly what degenerate discs are, and what causes them. I was diagnosed with 1 prolapsed disc (had surgery for) and 2 generate discs. But none of the doctors have explained what this is. They only seemed to pay attention to the prolaspsed disc which was causing the major pains, but surely having 2 degenerate discs (what ever they are) must be doing something too!!

If anyone can break it down in a much simply and understandable way, i would be very grateful.

was this lower back pain. I have severe pain lower spine, however my pain is more severe when moving. If I touch the area it isn`t painful. why would this be

When discs degenerate they lose hieght, get thinner, because they lose the ability to retain water, which keeps them fat & elastic.

Age is one factor, but not the single cause.

Discs absorb water when the weight is off them, when we sleep and it gradually gets squeezed out when we're upright.

In short - drink plenty of water and consider taking glucosamine sulphate & a copper supplement and have treatment from a manipulative therapist i.e. an osteopath. Joints degenerate a lot quicker if they are not moving, as they are very much dependent on movement for their health.
