desk options...

does anyone here use something other than a traditional desk in their office to greet clients at?

right now i have a regular desk but i really don't like it. i hate that i sit so much lower than my clients so i usually stand at the side of my desk when greeting them or when they're cashing out but it can feel awkward at times. i would really like to have a reception type of desk that i can stand at comfortably or use a tall stool. i've looked around and found some great ones but of course lots of them cost a fortune.

was just wondering if anyone else here uses something other than a traditional desk and how do you like it....where did you find it?

i don't use a desk at all, just pretty wicker chairs arrnaged in the reception area - 2 chairs. it's very comfortable. when i move (hopefully soon), i will get a desk/table type thing, because i will have a receptionist/book kepper.

in my husband's recently designed office, the manager uses a beautiful table instead of a desk for the secretary. not very practical: no drawers at all, no filing cabinets. but it sure is pretty!

I have a podium type of stand with a shelf that holds the phone etc. The top is tilted, with a ledge, for my appointment book. It's not my first choice but it works very well for me now as I don't have much space.

What about a bar type table that sits high? I don't use a desk at all. I have a clipboard for my intake forms and I have chairs for clients to sit in.

I do not use a desk either (now). Clients sit in the side chair we have in the corner and I am either standing beside them or on my stool with a clipboard.

for the new place I have been shopping reception area desks....and you are rightm they are very expensive.

The BAR udea is a great one...poerfect height...I imagine shelving/storage etc.
The one pictured is beautiful and about a tenth of what I am seeing recep desks going for.
