do i need a passport for a quick visit to TJ?

Warren is right about the passport thing. But honestly I bet you a romp in the sack with 2 lesbos from Hong Kong that come 2008 it does not go through. The boarder is the biggest money maker for the people of TJ! All politicians are corrupt bastards both sides of the boarder! Baja is the biggest vacation spot for the whole west coast too!

If they do pass the law there is going to be a whole lot of pissed off people on both sides! It will kill the economy in TJ too.

As the current situation, a drivers license is sufficient to cross back into the US, as long as you look OK. If you speak with an accent, are from any middle eastern country, including India, you better have some primo documents with you, or your ass is going into secondary for tighter screening. As it should be in my opinion. A good resource to get the current information of traveling, go to the Homeland Security website and it will give you the information and/or links to get the current information.
To my understanding, starting Jan 1, 2008, to walk or drive back into the US, you will need a valid passport. You should start now, as the backlog is going to be enormous.

Not YET, but I do find a passport nearly foolproof ID traveling abroad. After all its FEDERAL, standardized and assures pretty much you say who you are. So I'd get one anyway if I were you just to have one. I even use it for going to the polls or other times I'm ID'd. Its a great thing to invest in.

I havent been to TJ in about 2years.
In the past when re-entering the US, the officers would ask me what my citizenship was, and upon saying "US Citizen" they would let me back in with just a drivers license.

Now I am hearing that they require a passport. I dont have my passport with me. Does anyone know if they have changed their policy or do they still let you back inside with a drivers license?
