Do you ever feel a little..well.. POSSESSIVE of Bands you Introduce R&P to?

As my other question pointed out... I love to share music..... but the little egotist in me... does like to take some credit for finding and introducing them (embarrassing, right? *blushes*).

For the most part I don't mind.. just love to see bands getting promoted and bandied around.... but sometimes someone will answer a Q and go.. "Dude.. that band sucks.. you should listen to THIS band that so and so showed me......."

And All I can do is kinda think "............ who the FRIK do you think showed them to so and so?".

*SIGHS*. Awful of me, isn't it. Should I seek therapy for my Jealousy issues?

MQ- What is your favorite obscure no name band that you found all by your lonesome?
BQ- Does anyone else think Kool-Aid tastes better when made with carbonated water?
I feel like I am being stalked by the Ghost of Jerry Garcia's beard....... kinda feel honored actually......=P

Yeah, I'm kind of like that. As I explained in your other question about introducing bands to here I have an inner attention whore that is very strong and likes to get credit for things like that haha

I absolutely understand.

I had people pinned to a wall saying, "Listen to this band! They're amazing!" and followed that up with, "Aren't ________ amazing?!"*

And then, naturally, because the band was genius, now all of my friends and my sister own their albums and their friends now, too, and I think, "Hey! I made them!"

It gets worse: I've freakishly made myself Patron Obsessive over their homelands (in a manner of speaking, I felt like I discovered their country, too, which is just too weird in my opinion), study their native tongue, and named one of my "children" (my books- I call them my children) after one of their albums. I nicknamed them "God." Collectively, of course. I once went on YouTube and freaked out that one of their videos had a million viewers and I thought, "Mine! You lame peeps can't possible appreciate them as much as I do!" Ridiculous, I know, but, alas, true.

We differ in that I don't seek credit so much as for them to be *my band.* But the envy is quite real for the two of us and much of the world (thank God- we aren't alone!). Green monsters lurk below the surface for so many of us!

Perhaps my jealousy is more extreme than yours or less extreme- I don't know, but I get the possessive nature of art. That's how you know, in a way, that something is extraordinary, because I've read similar thoughts on books, films, plays, poems, and so on and so forth: so many of us love that one work of art or artist so much that we get upset if we have to share and live in denial that we aren't the center of these artists' universe (well...the latter...I do anyway...).

You aren't alone, my friend. You know that who you love is special when you get annoyed by people just talking about it.

Bonus Questions: I really like Architecture in Helsinki, but I don't know that Architecture in Helsinki counts as my favorite. Brain freeze. And carbonated water makes everything taste better. Pardon the lame comparison, but carbonated water is the duct tape of the consumable world: everything goes.

*I'm so lame, I won't even put their name ^.^

Eiter it's completely normal or I should be embarrased too. My girlfriend even jokes about it by saying she showed me "enter one of her favourite bands" when i showed her :/

It really depends. It's actually comforting to find people on R&P who actually listen to some of the stuff I do, as opposed to friends and family who look at me weird when I try and play them new things. And for the most part, a lot of my favorite bands are generally unheard of to most people I know. I love making mixes and suggesting new bands to people, really.

well...in a way i do, especially if i know i introduced a band...but really, not everyone knows where a band suggestion comes from For instance, alot of contacts will send e-mails in my direction suggesting bands, but never post it. So, sometimes hard to say.

Especially in your example, cause no one is going to look for the trail of who suggested what band first....so can't really blame them

also, sometimes people coincidentally name the same band at a similar time in different questions (i actually think this happened between us with Suffocated last year)


anyways, i definitely understand what you are saying, since it has happened to me, but really, i'm over it when i go to the next question

Yeah like I said on Jerry's Q... the bands we find ourselves (despite the fact that some people have heard them before no matter what) we tend to have a special place for and think of as "our" music. We are less inclined to "internalize" (which I think may be a bad thing to do with music) and/or think of bands people try to show us as being really good.

I have become less like this and try to just listen to all bands the same now though (at least, not letting how I found out about them affect anything), I think I have gotten pretty good at this.
