Do you learn how to do facials in massage therapy programs?

I want to be a massage therapist and plan to start a massage therapy program very soon. Once I complete the program, I plan to get a job as a massage therapist. I know a lot of entry level positions in spa-like jobs a lot of the times do facials. After I complete the massage therapy program, I plan on doing an aesthetics program. In the meantime, do you think I will be able to get a spa-like job as only a massage therapists?

I know my question is detailed a long, but basically will I learn enough in the massage therapy program in order to do basic facials before I start/finish the aesthetics program?

Also, do you think it's wise to do massage therapy first, or should I do it the other way around?

If you really want to do facials then massage therapy is not the way to go. That is the job of an Esthetician. I am not positive of all of the requirements for you state due to the variation in state laws. In California, to become a Certified Massage Therapist you need at least 500 Hours and for a Certified Massage Practitioner you only need 250. Regardless, therapists/practitioners do not do facial work. However, depending on the type of work i.e.- spas, chiropractic clinics, etc... you may do different types of treatments. At a Chiropractor's office you will generally do more therapeutic type work such as Deep Tissue massages. At a spa generally clients prefer relaxation massages such as Swedish. These can even include Esthetician-like treatments such as seaweed wraps or paraffin wax for the hands and feet.

There are many details and a range of options, but the best thing to do is aim for which ever area of work you prefer, then go from there. Perhaps you will move up from there, or maybe even change direction.
