Barely a few weeks into the school year and the battle to bare is raging.
Teens dressed, or should we say undressed, in skimpy styles are creating headaches on many home fronts.

For those with daughters who have a penchant for the provocative, negotiating age-appropriate clothing can send parents running for cover - and dragging their strong-willed daughters along.

According to the experts, sexy clothing at a young age is not only distracting - it's risky.

I have 2 daughters and a son - all in high school... and its situations like this that make me thankful for school uniforms...

Having said that, even when not in school, they are still smart dressers. In the case of my daughters, they take after their mom, stylish and trendy, but not trashy. The boy, is just the boy... dresses normally, and by that I mean NOT one of those hip-hop gangsta rap wannabe's with his pants hanging down halfway to his knees! :roll:

I saw a kid like that walking in the mall while I was out shoe shopping with my daughters a couple weeks ago, and seriously, the guy couldn't even WALK properly! :shock: I'm convinced those kids are orphans... They must be! There's no one at home to teach them better! :gasp:

Used to go clothes shopping with my daughter all the time.
I enjoyed that time spent with her as did she.
If she was not sure of something she would always ask what I thought.

But that habit of shopping with her started from birth and carried on all though high school and into college.

20+ years ago it was the same problem and 20+ years before that too.

The girls (your daughters) will sneak the clothing that they want to wear in their bags. I'm not saying all or yours in particular, but this is a common practise among teens.

I'm all for school uniforms regardless of catholic, private or public school. In fact, for those families that have trouble affording the uniforms, I think school board taxes should help pay for them. This is positive assimilation or uniformity. For teens, school is their place of work and they should be taught what is appropriate for the work environment.

ahem to that....I don't have any kids but if I did? I'd want to spend as much time with them as possible, while they still want me around that is lol........

I used to keep my boat out at bluffer's park marina in scarborough and there's a catholic school up the street. You'd always see the girls hiking up their kilts and undoing the buttons as soon as they got off school property.

BTW: those baggy pants became a trend in LA because, and if someone know better they can correct me, I seem to recall that in the LA county jail, they only had one size of pants and if you wore your pants like that, it meant you did time. Now they have jumpsuits I believe. I think I read somewhere that that is where the trend started.....

One thing about those baggy pants? they can't run in them so it is easier for the cops to catch them! lol. I can't tell you how many times on the show "cops" you see them tripping over themselves because of those jeans....

Guys from private or Catholic schools often look like slobs with their untucked shirt and loose tie uniform, the girls are usually much neater.

I can't see why the uniform is a better idea, it's just different.

To answer this question I will tell a story about when I was driving my daughter and her 3 friends home from the movies the other day...

They are all high-school age, 3 of them go to Catholic School (and therefore wear a uniform) and 1 does not... the 1 girl was stressing over what to wear to school the next day, :roll: and then my daughter spoke up and said, "I'm SO glad I don't have to worry about such things!"
The other 2 chimed in and said "OMG YA! I totally don't have time in the morning to have to make decisions like that!"
To which the 1 girl responded; "You guys SUCK! You are so lucky! Every day I have to come up with something to wear!"

:shock: (Just wait till they get older and have to make decisions about stuff that matters!) :roll:

Thankfully our school is phasing out the kilt, but they have a choice between navy dress slacks, capri pants or shorts along with a choice of 3 different tops which they may choose to dress up with a vest or sweater.

As for the guys- they have navy "Dockers" style slacks and a choice between 2 different golf shirts (which is required to be tucked in), and they can opt for a sweater or vest if they so desire.

All of the uniform clothing comes from a company called R.J. McCarthy, and they do a pretty good job.

"Fashion" anxiety is totally eliminated. :great:

Young people might talk about being anxious, but they usually enjoy expressing themselves through their wardrobe. It's good to encourage their individuality rather than try to mold them like in the army, but yes there's a point where the focus on clothes can be too much.
