Does anybody have a wedge?

I am definitely thinking of purchasing a wedge to use for my pre-natals or my clients that can not lay flat. I don't like the idea of having a ton of pillows that end up being in my way instead of assisting in possitioning.

Does anyone use one? Any suggestions when buying one?

I have a wedge. Got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. I don't use it much now that my table tilts, but before that, I did prefer it over the pillows.

I have a wedge. I use it in two ways:

• 1. At the head of the table for people you mentioned (women who are pregnant & elderly people with breathing difficulty.) Although I still put one pillow on top of the wedge (under their head). Otherwise, their neck can feel hyperextended.
  2. I also use it under the knees supine for my clients with low back pain. They find it much more comfortable than a smaller bolster.

I definitely recommend one. The hardest part is finding room for it in your massage room! : Here's the one I have. It's similar to Masthera's -- just a few inches thicker.

P.S. Regarding pillowcases. Since I use flat sheets, I just put the wedge under the sheet, eliminating the need for pillowcases. Don't know if that's an option for you or not.

I have a wedge too (a big long one, not the short body-cushion-like one of a recent thread). No advice on which one to purchase, because as usual with me, somehow I found this one at a thrift store while looking for something else! It had just a thin cotton zippered cover over firm foam; re-covered in an impermeable (Naugahyde?) it's great whenever someone feels uncomfortable flat, also w/a small pillow under the head like Bliss mentioned. I honestly don't use it much but if it's in your budget, I'm a big fan of having many many bolstering choices on hand. (Yes, it does take up a lot of room in the closet during those long stretches btw uses!)

I'm no good at messing with things under the sheet; a giant square "pillowcase" for the wedge works well (flannel or cotton, depending on the sheet on the table).

I don't have a wedge, but a friend has this type and I will comment that it is really good for people who have issues where they are more comfortable with the legs raised when in a supine position. Good enough that I have been considering to purchase one. It may be another option or something else you'd be interested in in the future. I am not sure it would be that good for pre-natals though... but you may find a way to make it work, thus giving you a more versitle wedge.

It looks huge, but is very comfortable.

After doing some research, it seems you can purchase a Leg Elevating Wedge in 4,6,8, and 10 inch heights. I am not sure the height of my friends, but I would guess it is the 8 or 10 inch as it looks quite high and made me wonder if it would be uncomfortable (even though it is not).

Does anybody have a wedge?

We use two types of wedges, both obtained at a Kate Jordan "Bodywork for the Childbearing Year" seminar.

The first wedge is small, and works great under the hip for supine positioning, or under the "baby bump" and/or waistline when sidelying. That Prenatal Support Wedge is listed here: http://www.katejordanseminars.com/Products.aspx?p=1

NOTE: That link also has a Hip/Shoulder Support Pillow that works great for sidelying on tender joints.

The other wedge is large, made of blue foam. It's more of a block that has been cut into two wedges. The larger wedge is perfect for semi-reclined positioning, and the other goes under the knees/legs. It's very simple, and can be combined with a few extra pillows for maximum comfort. Unfortunately, I don't see it on Kate Jordan's product page (above), but you might send her an e-mail inquiry.
