Does going up and introducing yourself to a girl really work?

I just started classes at the local community college. I've been single for a long time now and I would really like a girlfriend but I just don't see how I can meet any. I mean there cute girls in all my classes and I consider myself good looking and I've gotten a few stares back ( tho this is from random girls I pass in the hallways). And I mean I go to class and it starts you cant really be talking. And since I'm planning on transferring to a university, I actually do have to pay attention in class. But people be telling me all I have to is walk up to the girl I'm interested and just say "whats sup my name is ____. It just seems so cheesy and awkward. So girls if a guy you found attractive came up and introduce themselves would you actually go along with it?
Well i dont really stare. I just make eye contact with alot of girls when I'm just looking around the classroom

why not complement her wow i'm sorry i'm just taken back by your (pick something nice to say) eyes. They are really wonderful eyes. anyway i thought I should let you know .. want to get some coffee after class? (or food of your choice)
But you do need to walk up to them and let them know if your honest most girls by that age can handle that. Just be nice! smile, and don't be too scared. and if you are just go up to them or her an say this.

Your not going to get anygirls if you don't at least try that. Every girlfriend I've had I had to walk up to them, it would sure be nice if girls would make it easy and walk up to us every now and then for he sakes

How do friendships and relationships begin?? Someone has to approach the other.....cheezy would be the alternative like through a note. Your never going to have to worry about it if u dont get over your insecurity. If u see someone who appeals to u and theres an attraction there...step up!! The worse that will happen is youll get rejected but youll never know if you dont try...GOOD LUCK
