Yeah, it's always included, except if she thinks you're LE (law enforcement; i.e., a cop).

I notice that some have answered his 'generic' and possibly innocuous question nicely. Others who answered it just seem to be miserable.

Maybe you can explain to him why one word is acceptable and the other is not. I truly do not know the answer, other than the word he uses might have some negative connotations associated with it.
