Doing a split?
Lay it out for them. Tell them what you expect. Give them different options (ie, either raise the rate or cover the cost of a laundry service). Massage is a popular thing right now and if you stick to your guns on what you want, you WILL find it. Make sure you make the interview work for you. It is as much for you to find a good fit as it is for them. Some things to ask....is there a contract, is there a no-compete clause, can you take your clients with you if/when you leave, any hope for an increase, do you get tips or do you split them, etc.Personal story--I was at a spa where I was getting 50/50 (60% if the client rebooked), doing my own laundry, had to help with the phone (a lot). I sat down and figured out how much time I was putting into it versus the amount of money I was getting out of it and I realized I was making about $10 an hour. I decided I was no longer going to work that hard and only get that much. Yes, I did learn a lot and gained a lot of regular customers. I now have my own office. So the moral, it was a win/win and lose/lose situation depending on how you look at it. Chances are, you won't want to stay somewhere if they only offer 60/40 but it might be a place to get a start. And maybe you could tell them that...."if you pay me 60/40, I will sign on now but I want to take my client list with me when I leave." Hope that helps.Sadie
