dropped foot - can anyone advise

Hi i have been asked to provide some reflexology treatment for a lady with a condition called dropped foot. I dont know anything about this,can anyone advise if this lady would benefit from receiving reflexology orwould it be inadvisable to treat.
Would be grateful for any advice on this.

Hiya - wouldnt have thought it was a contraindication, it is a neuropathic condition - usually caused by damage or compression of one of the major nerves of the leg - peroneal most common. It presents as a "floppy foot" - if she is aware of the diagnosis then she may also have had investigations into its probable cause, may be worth a conversation with her re this?

Treatment is limited in the normal course of things - involves replacement of the nerve - and should be done fairly soon after condition presents for best results.

Have limited knowledge of reflexology myselfthough. Good luck

Hello Babski

People may get dropped foot as a result of a neurological condition such as Guillaume-Barre, like a chap I know. Some people don't recover the ability to lift their foot but with suitable supportive footwear they can get along just fine - it just looks as though they're walking in a rather flat footed way. You shouldn't have any problems with treating this lady though I don't imagine the reflexology will restore the function (is that her expectation?). As Jules says it's important to make sure she's consulted her doctor about it although I'm sure this will indeed be the case. I hope she enjoys the reflexology.
