I am a massage therapist [5 years] and I volunteer at a city drug detox and alcahol centre, clients are refered to me after seeing a doctor and are usually going through a Methdone treatment. I usually treat them to a half hour relaxing back massage, many have been subject to abuse of some kind.
Are any therapists out there involved in the same process and if so could they share in some of their experiences.

While I don't have experience in this, I was contemplating volunteering for something similar. I would be sure to keep the massages short and do only light work. You don't want to get all that junk moving too quickly through their system.

I would be on high alert for any tensions, etc. when touching in certain areas. With these types of clients you need to go the extra mile to make them feel comfortable and at ease with you so that they can tell you if anything is uncomfortable at all. Many have probably been abused, as you have said and may not have ever felt they had the power to speak up. It is key that you look for non-verbal clues of discomfort.
