Dumb detail question

There is nothing so fine as a SENTRI pass. It is better than a blow job. (Here I go stealing yet another quote from another monger but it is oh!, so true!) If you go to TJ more than a few times per year, it is worth your while to go through the application process and get a SENTRI pass. It is so eerie and yet so exhilarating to simply walk past hundreds and hundreds of people standing in line with solemn and downcast faces and be through the border crossing in less than a few minutes.

No problem crossing with just a CAL ID. You're supposed to have a passport, but really, USA had a hard enough time keeping out illegals, they will not be able to keep out a US Citizen. Passport is just convenient for US Border. My friends have all passed through with just a CAL Driver's Lic, however, you're gonna have to listen to the border lecture for a little bit.... Just apologize and go forth!

The United States now issues a Passport Book and a Passport Card. The "passcard" is about $60.00 and, like a DL, fits in your wallet. I strongly recommend getting one if you're traveling by foot or car to/from Canada and Mexico.

As Sampson stated, with a DL you can re-enter the US when visiting Tijuana. But the wait is significantly less with a passport book/card.

You should have a passport, however if you are a US citizen you can cross with only a Driver's License. Their is a special line for people without passports and it moves slowly.

I can't believe I am even asking this (have lived all over the world, including Mexico recently, but I haven't had to deal with a land border crossing since much before 2001).

What documentation do I need to cross over via terrestre to TJ, and (more importantly) to cross back. I am a US citizen. In the past, a passport wasn't necessary. Is it now?

Any advice is much appreciated.
