Earmarking a portion of the proceeds

I'm almost positive we've covered this before but I can't seem to turn up a thread on it, so here goes --

I'm thinking of donating a portion of each service fee to charitable organizations. I've made up a list & would like to give clients the choice of which org "their" donation goes to. Has anyone done this who would like to share tips?

I'm figuring I'll contact the orgs ahead of time to let them know what I'm doing (do a little cross-marketing at the same time) & write a check once a quarter.

may i just add a thought to this....it's just my opinion so please only take it for what it's worth...

i love the idea that you're going to donate a portion to an organization. that's awesome! i do this at certain times of the year myself. the only thing i'm wondering about is actually asking the client which org. they would like to contribute "their part" to. i'm wondering if it might be better to either have a sign or tell the clients that you donate X % of each service to "abc charity". i'm only thinking of myself standing in an office and being asked which charity. 1. i think it would confuse people and it may seem a little odd/strange (not saying that it is...just saying it could be construed as) 2. i think it may be more beneficial to pick one charity and direct your efforts to it for the entire quarter. maybe each new quarter picking a different charity.

the only reason i mention the part about asking the client is that it really isn't "their" donation - it's yours. sure, they're coming in to see you but you're making the donation. maybe just a simple, classy sign that says you donate a portion of your proceeds to charitable organizations. if you know of any charities who could benefit, please feel free to etc.... and maybe allow them to propose an organization that could use the help. if you have a newsletter, you could thank all of those who came in for massage and because of their visits, you were able to donate XXX dollar amount to (and then list the charities). hope this all makes sense. as i stated, it's just a thought.
