My husband and I are going to start trying to have a baby in a few months. This will be our first and I would really love to use a midwife. The problem is I don't have any friends or family who have ever done this before so I have no referrals for a good midwife or any midwife for that matter. Ideally I would love to do a home water birth, but since this will be my first pregnancy, I'm a little nervous about medical issues that could come up. If I have a complication free pregnancy it will be most likely that I do a home water birth.
So I guess what I am asking is for recommendations for midwives in the Edmonton, Alberta region and more information on what kind of services they typically provide. Will there be an option to do a hospital birth with a midwife? Can you do a hospital water birth? Are midwifery services covered by healthcare or is it all out of pocket? I guess most of these questions can be answered once I have a good reference for a midwife so if I can get that, it would be greatly appreciated.
