Has anyone ever worked at an Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon? I have an interview with them next week and I have heard mixed comments about working in a large spa? Does anyone have an experiance there? How is the pay? Any advice?

I haven't any personal experience but someone was just telling me that you have to be "in training" with the Red Door for an entire year - so during that time you're making less and working harder.--Jenna

You're not in training for a year...the place I'm at, I had about 6 hours of training on scrubs, specialty massages, etc., the rest, I had to wing it...

The spa is opening in Garden City, NY. Its a brand new red door spa so everyone is required to do an intense 2 week training 10am-6pm for 10 days. I did get the offered the job and I am leaning towards taking it. The pay is $12 an hour and 35% commission once you've made the spa $1,100.  So the minimum you can make is $384 on the books and max is depending on you. The hours scare me but its not just doing massage for 32 hours it would be doing wraps and stuff as well.  I figured it out and it works out to be about 13 massages at their lowest rate ($95 for a 50 minute massage, needless to say their not cheap there) comes to be around being paid $29 to me.  This is on a full time basis 32 hours a week with full benefits medical, dental and after 1 year; 401K and a weeks vacation. It's not exactly my dream job but the guaranteed money and the benefits are hard to pass up right now.Just when I decided to take the job I was called for an interview at a very large physical therapy center for a position taking over the massage therapy practice. I dont know all the details yet and Im trying to schedule an interview with them before the Elizabeth Arden training starts. My mind is going in a million directions. Do I stick to something that can guarantee me some money or do I take a chance in getting into a medical enviroment and take a chance there. I know I cant make up my decision until I find out all the information. I just find myself torn.Thanks to all that replied to me...sorry took so long for me to get back....any other comments are appreciated

Dawn,Based on my experience (because I work there), go with what you'll enjoy doing.  Yes, the benefits are nice, but are you going to have to be there when you don't have clients because let me tell you, nothing is worse than sitting at the spa on a sunday afternoon waiting for your client to show up!  That's an interesting price structure though, and what happens if you don't bring in the required $1100 sales?  If you're working full time, you shouldn't have a problem with that, but watch out because (at least where I'm at), we are constantly being pressured to sell packages, retail items, etc., and I don't do it because 1) I'm not there enough to care about making a sale and 2) if I wanted to sell retail, I would go and work at the Gap...of course, that's just me.  Watch out though because working with a bunch of women at a spa, not the best time!!!  Good luck to you though, keep us posted!

Thanks for the advice...still not sure what I'm going to do. I have an interview Monday with the PT place. Once I get all the info I'll try to make the best choice.As for the $1,100....anything under I get the base salary of $12 an hour once you go over the 1,100 you get 35% commission there after....I'll keep ya posted Thanks!  ;D
